Kate Middleton is a style icon. Her elegant, discreet and sometimes romantic outfits are part of world fashion inheritance. And her wedding dress became the most copied in the world!

It has identified trends of wedding dress design for decades. Thanks to Kate long sleeves regained popularity, lace guipures on netted tulle came into fashion, and the A-line silhouette reconquered dominance.

More than eight years have passed since the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but brides all over the world still want a dress like that of the duchess. Her wedding gown has become a cult dress, and its copies are still sold today. Any bride can buy a wedding dress "à la Kate" for 200 dollars, while its original rumored to cost 434 000 $.

All the world's wedding designers wanted to create an outfit for the future duchess. Every day Kate received dozens of sketches, but eventually gave preference to a British designer so confirming her patriotic feelings. The author of Kate Middleton's wedding dress was designer Sarah Burton, who heads the fashion house of Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide a year earlier. Just after the wedding Harper's Bazaar magazine awarded Burton the title of "the designer of the year".

Kate's wedding dress was also compared with other wedding dresses of famous brides, for example, with the legendary dress of Grace Kelly, the dress of Italian aristocrat Isabella Orsini, whose wedding took place two years before the celebration of Kate and the dress of Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth II.

Kate's dress was created in accordance with English traditions: sleeves and bodice were decorated with lace flowers. Some journalists have written about thistle, roses, shamrocks and daffodils - symbols of Great Britain. But in reality there were only roses and shamrocks. It was also obligatory to have a train: traditionally, the longer the train of the wedding dress, the happier the marriage would be. The train of Kate's wedding dress did not break the record of Princess Diana, whose train was eight meters long. Katherine did not even try to beat it with her 2 meters 70 centimeters.

Basically, brides choose one shade of white for their wedding dresses, but Kate's wedding gown combines two colours - white and ivory.

There is also another old Anglo-Saxon wedding tradition: the bride must have something old, new, borrowed and blue on her. The old lace of Chantilly was successfully combined with the work of modern masters, the new ones were earrings given to the bride by her parents, the tiara of Queen Elizabeth II was borrowed, and the blue one was a ribbon which the designer had sewn into the hem of the dress.

To give the bride's hips extra volume, the designer used a bustle, an element popular in the 1870s and 1880s. Victorian-style corsets are Alexander McQueen's fashion house signature, so it was used in Kate's dress as well.

The lower skirt of the dress was made in the form of a flower. It was also decorated with lace, as Pippa Middleton had to raise and carry the top skirt with its train.

For the wedding the bride chose shoes on low heels, they were also embroidered with lace patterns.
