5 tips to transport your wedding dress without wrinkling it

You spent weeks or maybe even months stalking your wedding dress, so now that it is in your hands and out of the question to damage it! Here are some tips to protect it when you travel.

In order not to waste all the effort put into your exceptional look, it is better to make sure that your wedding dress arrives intact at the ceremony venue! Do you have to carry your dress for small or even long journeys? Here are some recommendations.

1. Keep the garment bag

To avoid wrinkling your wedding dress, it is best to leave it in its garment bag. If the fashion house you have dealt with does not offer you a protective cover, consider buying one because it will be the best ally of your outfit during all your travels. The ideal is a fabric bag that will let the garment breathe, unlike plastic covers.

If your cover is made of plastic, use it only for transport and take out your dress as soon as you get to your destination. Do not make the mistake of sucking air from your plastic cover to reduce the transport volume of your baggage, you risque to create irreparable creases.

2. Fold the dress as little as possible

It is obvious, in order to avoid wrinkling your dress, it is better to fold it as little as possible. To do this, carry it unfolded as much as you can. If traveling by car, clear the rear seats and place it flat. Carry your wedding dress in an individual box using tissue paper for protection and to avoid wrinkles.

3. Suspend it

Hooks are often found in the back of cars above passenger windows. These accessories will allow you to hang your precious clothing. If you are traveling in a large car or bus, you may even have the option of hanging your wedding dress from the ceiling. Use hangers for that.

4. In the plane

It is better to keep your dress with you in the cabin than to cheque it as luggage inside a suitcase where it may wrinkle and suffer from the journey. Some airlines consider the wedding dress as an additional accessory and will allow you to bring it to the cabin.

In some aircraft, a closet is available for business class passengers. You can always explain your case to the crew and ask to hang your dress there. Be sure to check the specific transport and baggage rules of your airline before you even book your tickets.

5. The sock trick

Bring a pair of clean socks in your travel bag. Did your long-sleeved wedding dress have some wrinkles during transport? Rub the pair of socks against the wrinkles to help relax them. For a perfect look, use a steam press that will be effective at smoothing it out. Never use an iron!
